Charles Montpetit

A writer and a cartoonist, Charles Montpetit won the Governor General's Award, five CBC awards for various radio plays, and the White Raven Award for his First Time series of anthologies (the first two volumes of which made the list of the world's 240 best publications for young people). He also received one of Tele-Quebec's Signet d'or Awards, as well as the Actuelle-Jeunesse Award for his very first book, published at age 15. His drawings have graced numerous comic strips and book covers, and he has illustrated his own picture book, The Great Menace.

Teaching staff are invited to contact the author for clarification on this aspect and assistance in preparing their groups for his/her visit.

Proposed approach and type of activities

Humour and dynamic exchanges are key ingredients of these lectures about the creative process. The performances have been honed over 25 years of cross-Canadian tours.

  • With Secondary-level students, the author hosts an audio-visual quiz about real censorship attempts in Canada (from Shakespeare to Harry Potter). Participants test the limits of free expression and learn to think for themselves.
