A multidisciplinary artist, Jean-Claude Gagnon is responsible for introducing mail art in Québec City thanks to a mail art and visual poetry column in Inter magazine for the last ten years. He is the author of a series of fifty montages-collages of visual poetry that have been included in several exhibitions both locally and abroad. The artist also supervises the annual publication of a book work featuring international participation. He recently gave several conferences on mail art and book works. His sound and visual works have been chosen for major anthologies of visual and sound poetry, Italian and Russian in particular.

Proposed approach and type of activities

Repairing poetry

The objective of the workshop is to introduce students to book works featuring group participation. Jean-Claude Gagnon begins by presenting examples of collective book works, including Réparation de poésie, which will serve as teaching material. Together, the students then prepare a book work, each doing one or more works using mixed techniques such as gluing, photocopying, drawing, painting and small objects. Each group will then create, with the help of the artist, a presentation box to hold their works.

Special conditions

The school must supply various materials: glue, cardboard, paper, brushes, plastic, etc.
